Day #19, February 19th, 2016.

Quote from Straight Outta Compton (2015).

Fierce, strong-knuckled, unapologetic and consistently engrossing, this slice of history makes for a hair-blew-back kiloton energy viewing. Straight Outta Compton shows us a few parts of what was a very important time for hip-hop as an agent of social and cultural awareness. Thankfully, the actors, the writers, the director, and the entire team seem unfailingly up to this giant task.

This movie is basically a good story told with the urgency and care it deserved. But it plays out with a heated passion: its flaws draw it close to a losing sense of control at some points, and therein lies its irrefutable strength.
