Still from Wild (2014).
The third film by French auteur Jean-Marc Vallée which made me weep like a child (after Cafe de Flore and Dallas Buyers Club), this Reese Witherspoon-led masterwork is a dramatic orifice of pure cinema. I regard this film very highly; it is one of those rare soulful journeys on celluloid which resulted directly in a major shift in my perspective of the human spirit.
Reese Witherspoon is absolutely flawless in the film, but the movie’s best performance comes from Laura Dern as Bobbi, her mother. Having a bad day? Questioning your place in the world? Dealing with unspeakable grief?
My solution: put on this film and watch the sun’s benign rays bounce off Dern’s magnificently radiant presence. Let the waterworks do their job.
